The Morgan Hill Times - 2021 Best of Morgan Hill Special Issue
The Morgan Hill Times has published their annual "Best of" poll results and Craft Roots has taken 11 honors in the 2021 edition. Craft Roots is now the newly crowned Best Restaurant in Morgan Hill amid some tough competition. Craft Roots has also been named Best Kid Friendly Restaurant, Best Family Restaurant, and Best Pet Friendly Restaurant (pets are family afterall!) We also can lay claim to the Best Cocktail, Best COVID Cocktail to go, the Best COVID Curbside Food To-Go, and the Best Server - that's Katie! If that weren't enough to brag about, we also have the Best French Fries, Best Locally-Made Food Product, and last but our favorite, Best Vegetarian Food! Thank you Morgan Hillians for rooting for us (ha!) and all who voted!
"If you're looking for a plant-based meal that still feels hearty, Craft Roots is the place for you. Based in Morgan Hill, Craft Roots is a family-run vegan bar and grill with an artisanal touch. The menu features classic greens like the strawberry summer salad with pickled beets, toasted almonds, vegan feta and strawberry vinaigrette as well as more substantial offerings like the chili with pumpkin seeds, chili lime corn nuts and cashew-lime crema. Diners can also enjoy sips from local breweries and vegan mixed drinks, such as the lychee martini, from their extensive craft beer and cocktail menu. Craft Roots also aims to source their healthy whole foods locally—they partner with organic farms in the area and rotate their menu seasonally for fresh and evolving options."

"I hestitate to write this article for selfish reasons - I do not want to let this incredible secret out! For our Summer installment of Dining Out, and our boots-on-the-ground research, Deb reserved a table for four at Morgan Hill's Downtown gem of a restaurant - Craft Roots Vegan Bar and Grill."
Edible Monterey Bay - Spring 2021 Issue
"Behold the chili cheese burger with pumpkin-seed chili, queso sauce, crispy hominy and eggplant “bacon.” The sausage-mushroom pizza with sweet peperonata. The chipotle fried trumpet mushroom sandwich, pimento mac ’n’ broccoli and almond butter chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches.
The full-bodied flavors at Morgan Hill’s new Craft Roots Vegan Bar and Grill seize an appetite’s imagination fiercely enough that some newcomers don’t realize they’re eating at a vegan establishment until halfway through a meal."

"Nick Gaich, co-owner of the vegan restaurant Craft Roots, used his $2,500 to cover the K-rail with locally designed redwood siding and a mural by artist Doug Wright.
'The intent there was this to really capture the spirit of Morgan Hill with the great farm-to-table opportunities for the various local farms that we deal with,' Gaich said. 'We wanted to showcase that.' "
KPIX 5 Interview by Reporter John Ramos
Craft Roots owner, J. Gaich said, "So the whole goal right now is to fight the wind, sun, and temperature." That's the new challenge on top of everything else. John reported that J and his father Nick Gaich opened Craft Roots just six months before the pandemic hit. "They spent a lot of money fixing up the inside and now they're doing it again, this time outdoors. What used to be a driveway now holds tables shaded by umbrellas." reported John.
Nick says the new additions have improved their sales from 20% of normal to up to about 70%. And according to Nick this, "allows us to go from a state of just stabilization and recovery to hopefully thinking about renewal and what it means long term for us here in our community."
